My name is Remko Duppen and I've started taking pictures of synchronised swimming because of my three nieces (Evelien,Charlotte and Margot) who are/have been synchro swimmers with 'De Dolfijn' in Amsterdam.
At first it was just a way of keeping myself occupied during the long events at which I was present to support my nieces, and the only pictures I took were of them, but with the advent of digital photography and the purchase of a better 70-200mm f2.8 lens I decided that, as I was present anyway, it might be a good idea to take pictures of all contestants. After it became clear that Evelien would be participating in the Junior World Championships in Moscow in 2004, I decided to replace my not so good D100 with a, for that time, much better Nikon D2H and an iBook was added to store all those images. Then, when Charlotte started participating at the International level, the iBook was exchanged for a brand new MacBook, more stuff was added and when Margot was going to participate in the World Championships in Shanghai in 2011, I replaced my aging D2H for a new D3. Of course all that gear doesn't make me a good photographer like pros like e.g. Giorgio Scala, but I do like to think I've gotten, just like my nieces over the years, better.
But all that is of course up to you to decide. Just click on the links below to visit my galleries
